Birkhow holiday cottage is situated in the centre of Eskdale village, with stunning views of the Eskdale valley, one of the most tranquil parts of the Lake District. The cottage itself is in beautiful order throughout, offering comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people.
The front door leads to a hallway with sitting room to the left and dining room to the right. The sitting room is warm and welcoming with an open coal fire (coal is charged at £1 per hod), wooden floors and a bright rug. There is TV with DVD player.
The dining room is spacious with seating for six. A woodburning stove adds extra warmth and comfort to the room.
The dining room leads through to the kitchen plus a utility room for wet coats and boots. There is also a microwave, fridge with top freezer, electric cooker and a slimline dishwasher. A washing machine and tumble drier is located in an outside storage room.
Halfway up the stairs is the bathroom which has a deep fill freestanding bath with a hand held shower. There is also a separate shower cubicle for those who prefer showers.
Upstairs are three bedrooms - one double and two twins. All the bedrooms have a chest of drawers and there is additional storage in the walk in wardrobe in the spacious hallway upstairs.
The garden outside has a patio area for barbeques (the village shop is a handy 5 mins walk away) and a lawned area - a perfect place to relax and look at the stunning views.
Please note: the drive is very short but fairly steep and so therefore unsuitable for low wheel base cars.
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea. - Irton Road station is just ten mins walk from Birkhow Cottage.
There are five pubs in the valley (the Bower House Inn is just a ten minute walk away), all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop is just a five minute walk away and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. There is some reception for mobile phones on the Orange network.
