Walking holidays in Ireland

walking holidays ireland
walking holidays in Ireland - splendid scenery everywhere

The very thought of it would make most of us pack and head for Ireland for a spot of walking - stunning landscapes all over the Emerald Isle, with lakeland scenes, rugged mountains, the Giant's Causeway, long sandy beaches, and wherever you go there's a friendly Irish pub at the end of the day.

Perhaps the following destinations may just whet your appetite:

The Blackwater Way – 168 km. Walking, hiking and even rock climbing are popular pursuits throughout the Southwest of Ireland. The area offers a spectacular selection of gentle, or more challenging routes, the chance to spot a wide variety of animal and bird species as well as ancient archaeological sites. Whatever your level of fitness you can easily find a suitable path or trail.

Stay in Cork at Ballyhass Lakes - heaven on earth for anglers, walkers and golfers

Ballyhass Lakes Holiday Village is a luxury development of eleven architect designed holiday homes, located on the shores of Ballyhass Lakes in the heart of County Cork, southern Ireland.

This is an ideal location for family holidays or for anglers to come on holiday. The surrounding area offers easy access to angling (both lake and river), horse riding, heritage trail walks, and golf. The main tourist attractions of Cork and Kerry are all within driving distance (half-an hour) with an abundance of Blue Flag beaches, Island day trips and gourmet restaurants. The 3 and 4 bedroom houses ooze distinction and character. They are larger than most holiday homes and have been created in a location that is peaceful and serene. A safe environment allowing for long summer evenings, playing in the green areas, and away from the noise of passing traffic.

Each house has its own patio/BBQ area – perfect for a summer evening of alfresco dining and cooking. The kitchen leads onto an open-plan dining area overlooking the lakes. The living room is spacious with an open fire and wooden floor detail. Each room is furnished to a high luxury standard with lots of touches that will make you feel at home. The design of the houses has ensured natural light throughout the house giving that true outdoors living feel. In addition to the en-suite master bedroom there is a large family bathroom and a downstairs WC.

There is a choice of 3-4 bedroom houses, sleeping 5-7 people.

Take a walking holiday in County Galway, Ireland, and enjoy walking through Connemara National Park

Sunnybank House is a nineteenth century period house of immense character in Clifden, County Galway, southern Ireland. It is uniquely situated in its own mature gardens yet only 100 meters from Clifden town centre.

The Drawing room is the main room in the House, adorned with paintings and antique furnishings. The gracious room is made intimate by its large roaring turf fire around which friendships are made and stories are told as visitors relax and drink tea or read a book in the evenings. It would be great venue for a group of walkers wishing to explore this part of Ireland.

One of our better known visitors was Chelsea Clinton who stayed with us during her Irish Tour. The bedrooms are all individually decorated with a combination of antiques and modern day conveniences such as tv, direct dial telephones, central heating, large Kingsized orthpaedic beds where possible and ensuite bathrooms.

The gardens with their blend of rockeries, lily ponds and mature plants offer a calming respite after a long days walking or rambling.

Our outdoor heated swimming pool is open from June 1st to September 20th. There is also a sauna, and tennis court if you feel energetic. Please click on one of the photographs to find out more about this very attractive self-catering property in County Galway, Ireland.
