To most people, the Peak District is Derbyshire. However, the first of Britain's National Parks extends into the surrounding counties of Yorkshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire and does not cover all of Derbyshire.

Ask tourists what the Peak District looks like and they will describe rough hillsides with rocky outcrops where sheep wander freely, dry stone walls, tumbling brooks, lakes, reservoirs, waterfalls, and caves - some of which are large enough to sail a boat through.

Stone is the star performer in the Peak District - in white limestone, grit and shale. It graces the landscape and buildings.

There is something for everyone in the Peak District. Nature, history, legend and commercialism combine to provide an ideal holiday destination with much to do and see for all ages.
