For those not familiar with the geography of Scotland, Fife is the area on either side of the M90, between Perth and Dunfermline or as some people will tell you that the 'Kingdom of Fife' lies between the two estuaries of Firth of Tay and Firth if Forth. Well known towns nearby include Royal St Andrews on the east coast with its prestigious university and golf course, Glenrothes, Kirkaldy, Cupar, Cowdenbeath and Alloa.
The countryside is pleasantly green with gentle hills. It's a great place for a touring holiday of Scotland because of the potential to visit Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews and Perth - all locations on the tourist map.
The coast is peppered with charming small former fishing villages and superb beaches, Crail Harbour is shown on the right. This is an ideal destination for families with young children; enjoy an old fashioned holiday with days on the beach building sandcastles, paddling, searching for sea creatures, fishing, a spot of golf and plenty of other healthy outdoor pursuits.
