Find
self-catering holiday cottages and houses in County Kerry, Ireland.
Kerry is a county with an extensive coastline on the Atlantic Ocean,
with sweeping beaches and picturesque coves.
Inland, the
scenery is equally spectacular with majestic mountains and lush green
farmland. Fishing, walking, sight-seeing, and just relaxing down
at the pub, are all on offer.
The Dingle
Peninsula is the northern-most promontory of county Kerry, S.W.
Ireland, the western part of which is the Gealtacht or Irish language
speaking area.
Stretching for thirty miles westwards from Tralee
to the Atlantic Ocean and the Blasket Islands the peninsula is covered
in mountains, Mount Brandon the highest, and lake dotted hills, and
with the villages of Brandon and Castlegregory on the north side and
Inch, Annascaul and Dingle town on the south side. Inch (sea
meadows) is a magnificent four-mile strand of golden sand backed by
sand hills, well known to Archeologists for its kitchen middens and
old habitation sites (over 1000 ancient sites abound on the Dingle
peninsula).
More recently the area featured in two famous films,
Ryan’s Daughter and Playboy of the Western World. Dingle’s famous
seafood restaurants and the local pubs with Irish traditional music
are popular with the tourists.
