| Sports minded people
of all ages are well catered for in the town. The local secondary school, William de
Ferrers, has superb facilities that are available to the community outside school hours as
part of a Sports Centre. Special classes and clubs are organised for children during
the school holidays.
There is also a private health
club, snooker club and some facilities at the Village Hall. Various
clubs and classes are held at these venues and also at the WI Hut
and other places. For those who prefer their sports to be water
based, the local Eyott sailing club may provide an outlet.
There's swimming in South Woodham Ferrers (new pool) Maldon and
Chelmsford, and a diving club in Wickford and Maldon.
New swimming pool in South
Woodham Ferrers (opened 2005)
The
new swimming pool is attached to the William de Ferrers school complex.
There is a car park dirrectly across the road from it.
The temperature
of the water is generally very comfortable, there are good changing
rooms and showers.
The pool has
an adjustable floor to suit various classes and ages of people.
There is a varied programme including aqua-aerobics and sessions
for the over 50s.
One downside
is the lack of steps leading down into the water - there are just
ladders that can be difficult for some. It's a practical pool without
the flumes and 'fun' features provided in the Maldon swimming pool.
