The secondary school in South Woodham Ferrers, William de Ferrers is one of the largest in Essex and indeed the UK. Like the rest of the town, it is housed in smart   new buildings which spread over a wide area. In keeping with the design of the town centre, the buildings are no more than 2 storeys high. The school buildings incorporate the public library and sports centre.

The general public are welcome to use the sports centre facilities outside school hours and during the school holidays. Sports fields, tennis courts and an astro-turfed, floodlit,  multi-purpose pitch adjoins the school.
