The choice of
restaurants in South Woodham is excellent for such a small town although limited to
English, Indian, Pizza and Chinese cuisine. Restaurants in South Woodham Ferrers have come and gone over the years, or changed hands.
The Whalebone Pub on the Old Wickford Road has been beautifully refurbished to offer a comfortable and attractive venue. Worth checking out for drinks and meals.
Tastes
differ, some people adore Indian - others loathe it, but if you
like a good curry, then South Woodham has three Indian restaurants
and one take-away. The food is excellent, award winning in some
cases, and very reasonably priced. A new Indian Restaurant,
the Tamasha, has a special Sunday eat as much as you like
buffet 1 pm -10 pm plus offers free delivery on
take-away orders over a certain amount within a 4 mile area (Tel:
01245 328787/320390)
Courtesy and a helpful manner used to be
found at the Mamozin Cafe which also offered a take-away and home delivery service.
Now sadly gone. Turkish/Greek food was on the menu along with pizza, hamburgers and chips.
Shaws Farm Carvery is very popular during the summer. Its
garden with picnic benches is over-run with families with children on sunny days,
especially at weekends. The garden has a large duck pond, complete with ducks, a
children's play area, bouncy castle and other activities at weekends and on Bank Holidays.
It is usually necessary to book a table for the restaurant.
Good pub meals are also to be
found at the Whalebone,
the Oakland Hotel, the Curlew
and the Town Crier.
Fish and chips can be purchased from two
establishments, one English, one Chinese.
Other Chinese restaurants and take-aways are also
to be found in the town centre.
Last but not least, Doorsteps
Sandwich Bar will deliver freshly made sandwiches and rolls to you
if you phone through an order. Telephone 328866
