| Another
example of excellent town planning, the cycle and foot paths form a network throughout
South Woodham Ferrers. Most of them act as short cuts across the town once you know
them.
In
some cases, as in the path that runs from King Edward's Road to
the town centre, the path is divided into half; one section for
pedestrians, the other for cyclists. This particular path
runs down the back of houses, in between high fences. Although
South Woodham is generally safe, it's wise to walk where you will
be visible to others at night as there have been a couple of reported
incidents of assault in the past.
A footpath to the station runs
along the back of Fennfields Road and Station approach. Another from Woodham Halt to
the Western Industrial area.
A useful shortcut from the town
centre opposite the Fire and Police stations gives quick access to the Collingwood School
part of town.
Useful though the paths are, it can
be easy to get lost in them; they're a bit of a rabbit warren, especially in the
Collingwood part of town. Bairstow Eves, the estate agents in the town centre,
provide house-hunting visitors with an excellent up-to-date map of South Woodham
Ferrers showing all cycle and foot paths. Alternatively, the mapmay be
obtained from the publishers Touraco Ltd., at 13 Fairfax Drive, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex,
SS0 9AG.
