Highland
Games with tossing the caber and various manly shows of
strength plus highland dancing take place in many Scottish
towns. Floors Castle massed pipe band championship in
Kelso, in the Scottish borders, is an awe inspiring sight
to behold. It takes place at the end of August and over
200 pipe bands participate and compete. There are several

We all
appreciate that the countries of the British Isles have many
beautiful places to visit, so, whether you like traditional
seaside resorts, quiet mountain retreats, cycling through
forests, or visiting places with historic interest, the following

This detached self-catering house of a high standard is in the pleasant and friendly riverside town of South Woodham Ferrers in Essex.
This 3 bedroom house offers living room, dining room, cloakroom, kitchen with gas hob, dishwasher, bathroom with bath and separate shower.
Two of the double bedrooms have a double bed, one a super king very comfortable bed. WiFi Internet access. 7 minutes walk to the railway station - a branch line off the main Southend to Liverpool Street line.
The town centre is within easy walking distance where there is a good selection of Indian, Chinese and other restaurants, a 24 hour Asda superstore, a small range of shops and various leisure facilities including an indoor swimming pool, gyms, tennis courts, badminton courts, snooker hall, park with skateboard ramps, and library. The house is available for flexible lets from a few days to several weeks.
There
are numerous excellent visitor attractions nearby including
the largest antiques centre in Essex, a family farm and country
park, sailing, a butterfly farm and playpark, RHS Hyde Hall
gardens, and the Essex coast - Southend-on-Sea is only half
an hour's drive away. Southend has a centennial Carnival this
year during August with floats, competitions, a spectacular
firework display and many other events.
During
August, Chelmsford (11 miles away) hosts the annual V Festival
and an outdoor Musical Spectacular with a firework finale.

Maggies
cottage is available for part of the school summer holidays.
Lovely, spotlessly clean 2 bedroom 18th C, Devon cottage in
the village of Witheridge, 7 miles from Tiverton. It's in
a quiet country farming community in the middle of the village.
Its 3/4 hr drive from the coast and its in the middle of the
two moors walk between Exmoor and Dartmoor. It sleeps 1-4
and we take 1 well behaved pet.

of things to see in August in Devon, for example there is
an International Folklore Festival in Sidmouth with performing

working horses, this thoughtfully converted 200-year old detached

A truly
beautiful bungalow for a supremely comfortable August holiday, Powys
The
Swan House is a 4 bedroom bungalow in a country setting in the Welsh
Marches - it sleeps up to 8 people. A special self-catering property

The towns of Presteigne, Knighton and Kington lie within a six mile

30 minutes to Hay-on-Wye (UK book centre with literary festivals),
Ludlow (delightful Marches town and epicurean centre) and Hereford
(Cathedral city), and 25 minutes to Leominster (antique centre).

white beaches with big waves at Borth, a scenic one and a quarter
hour drive west. The highest golf course in England is just outside

Sunnybank
House is a nineteenth century Period House of immense character
whose history is part of the history of Clifden Town itself. It
is uniquely situated in its own mature gardens yet only 100 meters
from Clifden town centre. A lovely house for families or extended
groups - it can sleep uo 17 people.
The Drawing
room is the main room in the House, adorned with paintings and antique
furnishings. The gracious room is made intimate by its large roaring
turf fire around which friendships are made and stories are told
as visitors relax and drink tea or read a book in the evenings.
The bedrooms
are all individually decorated with a combination of antiques and
modern day conveniences such as tv, direct dial telephones, central
heating, large Kingsized orthpaedic beds where possible and ensuite
